.After winning top prize at the William Kapell International Piano Competition in Washington DC, Anthony Hewitt has established a successful career as recitalist, chamber musician and soloist with orchestra, earning him his reputation as a pianist of formidable interpretative and technical ability. The New York Times described him as an ‘excellent pianist, showing impressive clarity, fleet technique and a wide range of tonal colours’, and the Badische Nachrichten praised his ‘musical authority, beauty of tone, and youthful virtuosity’. He was also winner of the NFMS/ESSO ‘Young Concert Artists Award’ in London which led to a twenty-five-concert tour of the UK and a platform on London’s South Bank. Other awards include prizes at the International Schubert Competition and Special Prize at the ARD Munich Competition.
Educated at the Yehudi Menuhin School in London, the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, and the Mannes College of Music in New York, his teachers and mentors have included Leon Fleisher, Edward Aldwell, Seta Tanyel, Claude Frank, Bryce Morrison and Alfred Brendel, who described him as 'a young pianist of remarkable talent'.
Anthony has performed in recital across the USA including Carnegie Weill Recital Hall, as well as in France, Germany, Japan, Brazil, Peru and South Africa. Notable UK appearances include those at St. John’s Smith Square, St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London, and four successful appearances at Wigmore Hall where Musical Opinion hailed his debut performance there as 'astounding … wonderfully moving'. The Times subsequently described him an 'outstanding pianist'. He has appeared as soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington DC, the Princeton Symphony Orchestra, the London Soloists’ Chamber Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, Northern Chamber Orchestra, Kaliningrad and Saratov Orchestras of Russia, and at the Royal Opera House in London. He has performed with many regional orchestras throughout the UK since his orchestral debut with the Lakeland Sinfonia at the age of eleven.
